Saint-Tropez
Saint-Tropez today is iconic within the South of France however this wasn’t always the case. Since the 1950s when it was a small fishing village, it has quickly grown into one of France’s most popular destinations, enjoyed by the rich and famous.
The town is located in a favourable part of the Mediterranean coast, with beautiful beaches beautiful, an ideal climate and a thrilling and exuberant social scene. The summer season is bookmarked by two popular events. In May, Les Bravades de Saint Tropez kicks off the season with a celebration of the town’s patron saint Torpes of Pisa and concluding the summer in October is a regatta, Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. During these months, the bars, cafés and restaurants are buzzing with visitors.
In contrast, the old part of town has winding streets and architecture reminiscent of an older France. The coast, in the Baie de Pampelonne, is a collection of smaller beaches on a 5km shore and there are always debates as to which one is the best. Activities such as sailing, windsurfing and various other motorised water sports are on offer here.
Saint-Tropez’s down-season can be a delight too – once the hordes of visitors are gone its authentic old-France personality blossoms. Many visitors therefore prefer to come at the beginning or tail end of the summer season in May, June, September and October for this reason.
With only two main roads linking Saint-Tropez to other towns – one to enter and one to leave the city – in the height of summer, the streets are famously gridlocked. Alternatively, you can travel from town to town by boat which goes from Saint-Tropez to Saint-Raphaël, Sainte Maxime, Port Grimaud and surrounding cities.
The Property Market in Saint-Tropez
There are only a few new-build projects in Saint-Tropez, especially in the historic centre of the charming city. Although the demand is strong for such properties, the number available on offer remains low.
Saint-Tropez’s popularity makes its real estate market strong in terms of capital appreciation as well as for generating rental yields, especially in the short term. Tourists have been attracted to Saint-Tropez for years and it continues to grow steadily. In 2017, 140,000 visitors came to the area on holiday and this figure is expected to grow in the near future.
